Vintage Design
This coffee table, model, MP 97, was designed and produced by Percival Lafer, in Brazil, during the 1970s. It has a simple structure in solid exotic wood and the top in smoked glass. In original and good vintage condition, with only a small crack in the corner of the glass top.
Architect and designer Percival Lafer believed that instead of idealizing design, often conceived as art, a piece could only be considered really relevant if it pleased the public, not just the creator.
He is not just recognized for his originality and innovation, but he is also one of the pioneers of the industrialization of the Brazilian design processes. His pieces have an excellent design quality and are made of the best materials and techniques available in traditional furniture making. For him “each project should reflect the state of the art applied to new ideas”. Ahead of his time, he was a pioneer in the search for new technical resources and also in the use and combinations of materials with originality and boldness. His creations ended up conquering the world, thus helping to give new meaning to the idea of Brazilian furniture.
