Vintage Design
Give your dining experience a real lift with this beautiful and macabre “Thackray” Operating dining table, which is sure to raise your blood pressure, and a few eyebrows! A fantastic piece of engineering by Chas F Thackray Ltd, Leeds, producers of high quality stainless steel surgical instruments, apparatus, hospital furniture and operation tables – suppliers to the Surgeons since the early 1900s.
The dining table will comfortably seat six people, as it has been fitted with a beautifully figured solid African teak top reclaimed from a Midcentury dining table with stylish, gently curved ends.
Originally designed for Ear Nose and Throat operations, the cast steel Thackray base is beautifully engineered and the mechanism allows the table to be multifunctional as illustrated in the images. The table can be adjusted from standard dining height to fully extended at desk standing height by pumping the foot pedal – releasing the hydraulic ram with a secondary pedal. (The video demonstrates the standing desk height dropping down to dining table height). The table can also be tilted in two directions by turning the large hand-wheel on the underside, which runs very smoothly. Although very heavy, the base is easily manoeuvred as it pivots on two steel wheels, and when in place, the third three-pronged foot is wound down to the floor, lifting the wheels and completely stabilising the table in place.
Condition wise, the aluminium remains shiny, there are age-related marks to the brushed cast iron base, and a scratch mark to the table top, which can be seen in the last image.
