Vintage Warren Fischer Abstract Painting https://www.xersftw.shop/product/vintage-warren-fischer-abstract-painting/ https://www.xersftw.shop/product/vintage-warren-fischer-abstract-painting/#respond Wed, 25 Sep 2024 07:30:53 +0000 https://xersftw.shop/product/vintage-warren-fischer-abstract-painting/

Offered for sale is an abstract oil painting on canvas by the American artist Warren Fischer (1943-2001). The painting is part of the artist’s estate. Fischer used great impasto texture techniques that create movement along with the use of strong hues. The painting is nicely framed and wired for hanging.
Fischer earned a BFA from the University of New Mexico in 1966 with a major in painting and a minor in art history. Returning to Florida, his permanent residence since 1951, he continued postgraduate art studies at Florida State University. From 1976 through 1981 Warren and his family lived aboard their sailboat and traveled throughout the Florida Keys and Bahamas. During this time Warren changed from oil to acrylic; acrylic being better suited for shipboard life. His artistic development grew as he combined his observations of light and water with figure studies. ln 1981 Warren and his family purchased a home in Miami but remained connected to the sea. Warren began painting large canvases in acrylic while returning to his studies in oil. Warren passed in 2001.

“l am concerned with the immediacy of the brush strokes and the physical gestures producing them which lead to smaller ‘painted worlds’ making up the total image. When I paint, l feel as if I’ve turned off my mind, and I am directly impinging on the canvas revealing small areas of ideas and possibilities which constitute the whole finished visual experience.”

“Some of my paintings show humans placed beside animals symbolizing our shared interrelated and primordial beginnings. Both creatures stare blindly outward toward an incomprehensible, vast, and indifferent universe.”

1967 Original American Vintage Playing Card Poster – King of Clubs (Linen-Backed) https://www.xersftw.shop/product/1967-original-american-vintage-playing-card-poster-king-of-clubs-linen-backed/ https://www.xersftw.shop/product/1967-original-american-vintage-playing-card-poster-king-of-clubs-linen-backed/#respond Wed, 25 Sep 2024 07:25:02 +0000 https://xersftw.shop/product/1967-original-american-vintage-playing-card-poster-king-of-clubs-linen-backed/

A minimalist mid-century poster that is perfect in its simplicity and refinement. We think it would look fabulous in almost any room, office, lobby … any place that needs a pop of color and vintage whimsy.

A bit of playing card trivia: It has been suggested that the first cards may have been actual paper currency which doubled as both the tools of gaming and the stakes being played for, similar to trading card games. Using paper money was inconvenient and risky so they were substituted by “money cards”. One of the earliest games in playing cards were used for which we know the rules is madiao, a trick-taking game which dates to the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644).”

Recently linen-backed, this poster is in excellent condition and would look fabulous framed.

1965 Abstract Oil on Canvas Painting Signed by James L. Bruch https://www.xersftw.shop/product/1965-abstract-oil-on-canvas-painting-signed-by-james-l-bruch/ https://www.xersftw.shop/product/1965-abstract-oil-on-canvas-painting-signed-by-james-l-bruch/#respond Wed, 25 Sep 2024 07:24:56 +0000 https://xersftw.shop/product/1965-abstract-oil-on-canvas-painting-signed-by-james-l-bruch/

Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, James Bruch (1942-2023) pursued his artistic talents at the University of Notre Dame, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1964. Thereafter, he received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California in 1967. While in school, Bruch focused his attention on painting bright scenes and recreating masterworks in pencil. From the ‘70s-’90s, he built his advertising career, garnering recognition for his efforts along the way. Upon retirement, Bruch immediately returned to decades-old ideas of colorful abstraction, which he had reimagined throughout his lifetime.

Bruch started his career designing for Montgomery Ward in Chicago, where he would meet, and settle down with, his wife Amy. He would continue his career at the prestigious institution of Leo Burnett as an art director and later as vice president. Following his retirement from the industry in 1999, Bruch was reinvigorated as an artist. He began to rediscover old concepts from his time in art school, reworking them, painting and repainting layer after layer, no piece ever truly finished in his eyes. He was a very reserved man after his retirement and following the death of his wife. This resulted in his work not being exhibited or sold during his lifetime.
