Vintage Design
Rene Herbst was a French industrial designer and one of the pioneers of modern furniture design. Designed in the 1920s, Herbst created a series of innovative chairs produced for Formes Nouvelles in 1960s that were known as Sandows chairs. The Sandows chairs were named after the elastic cords, that were used to create the chair’s seat and backrest. This material gave the chairs a unique and flexible quality, allowing them to mold to the contours of the body for maximum comfort. Herbst’s Sandows chairs were also characterized by their simple and streamlined design, which reflected the principles of the Modernist movement. The chairs featured clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and a focus on functionality and practicality. Despite their simplicity, the Sandows chairs were considered highly innovative for their time, and they had a significant influence on the development of modern furniture design. Today, these chairs are considered classic examples of 20th-century design and are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. Very good vintage conditions.
