Vintage Design
Fantastic pair of Ghyczy garden eggs in red plastic bowls with white seat covers. The seat cushions on both armchairs were reupholstered in a white cotton fabric. The bowls are in very good condition, no chips on the edge of the bowls. Both hinges fit perfectly and are not broken. Only slight signs of wear on the lower edge of the bowl. One of the chairs has a chip visible on the top of the lid. The lid of this chair serves as a backrest when unfolded. This piece of furniture is a work of art in the Space Age style and is a highlight in any room or garden.
Peter Ghyczy designed this armchair in the late 1960s for Gottfried Reuter, owner of the Elastogran Manufactory. When this company was sold to BASF, production of the chair went to East Germany and it was nicknamed the Senftenberg Egg. An important piece of German design history.
