Vintage Design
Jürg Bally (1923 – 2002) was a Swiss furniture designer, interior designer, and product designer. He ran an interior design store in Zurich’s old town, where he presented his own designs as well as international designs. Renowned brands such as Hermann Miller, Knoll International, and Danese were represented in Bally’s showroom. The “Ess. Tea. Table” was designed by Bally in 1951. The table can be transformed from a dining table into a deep tea table with just one flick of the wrist. An ingenious mechanism allows the user to adjust the table to the desired height. The maximum height is 67cm. The lowest position is 40cm. In between there are 5 more steps, at a distance of about 6cm. By the way, the name of the table forms a play on words. “Eat. Tea. Table” (or S.T. Table for short) has the same sound as the word “aesthetic”. Our table was produced in the 1950s by the company Wohnhilfe. Three crossed legs made of solid beech wood form the base. On it rests the top made of veneered walnut. Beech wood lipping. The whole table was restored by a professional restorer in a very elaborate way. The complete varnish was removed, then everything was re-stained and varnished. The table is in perfect condition – absolutely no signs of use. The mechanism works perfectly. Diameter 99cm.
