Antique Circa 1920’s Ladder-back chairs, Americana High-Country style, beautiful classic lines, sturdy and very comfortable
-Mom has owned ~ 35 years.
-Purchased from Grace Holman’s personal collection, at the annual Dolly Johnson Antique and Art Show. Claiming to be the largest and oldest antique show in the South West, it was founded in 1963 and ran for ~50 years at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth’s Cultural District. (Highly reputable dealers traveled from all states, fiercely competing for a much coveted booth. Dealers were selected based on reputation and portfolio and strove to be honest for fear of loosing their spot. )
-Seats were replaced ~ 4 years ago, as the original ones were failing badly and could not be saved. Professional restored patronized by antiques dealers and designers. Known as “the only shop capable of doing it correctly”. The 2 new seats cost $500.00.
-Raised arms produce an extremely comfortable seating position in these sturdy chairs. My sister is 5’ tall, 100lbs and my husband is 6’, 175lbs and both marvel at how comfortable the chairs are (although mom doesn’t know we tried them out. Lol)
-One appears slightly darker than the other in the picture, but I never noticed that in person.
-Always kept well away from the sun, as my mother knows the value of a good antique.
-For 35 years: one person, a/c, non-smoking, pet-free home, used only for their beauty and as decor (never sitting), and treated with kid gloves.
-Excellent Condition, for their age. On close exam, I will say has a few scuffs, but very minimal. It is tempting (I’m scared to because they have the seats have been replaced and they ARE 100 years old, so hard to believe) to say like new, but better with the lovely patina.
Grace Holmes said they came from New England and while they are an Americana replica, they are old and very well done, circa 1920.
-Grace believed the wood to be maple.
-The shop called these rush seats; the color contrasts beautifully with the wood.
-Timeless design
